On 23 May 2013, the Commonwealth, the Victorian Government and the Ford Motor Company of Australia Ltd (“Ford Australia”) announced the $24.5 million Melbourne’s North Innovation and Investment Fund (MNIIF) to assist with industry development in the Melbourne’s North. The MNIIF will provide support for new investment by business leading directly to new sustainable job opportunities in the Melbourne’s North that will help the region diversify its economic base.
Concept Caravans Pty Ltd is a recipient that was awarded a grant funding for a project that involves the “expansion to increase production capacity and facilitate the development of new products for the recreational vehicle market” that will ultimately create at least 20 new jobs in Campbellfield, City of Hume, VIC. The total project cost is estimated at $3.1M
Concept Caravans original expansion plans were set for commencement in 2017. The MNIIF grant allowed for an earlier facilitation of this expansion plan and the project commenced in September 2015. The schedule completion of the project was November 2016, with commissioning and production planned as of December 2016.
The project is ahead of schedule by (20%) 2 months and currently production at the new facility is likely to commence by the end of September or early October 2016.
To date, new jobs created is well ahead of the target set. It is anticipated that the target will be exceeded by over 50% within the timeframes discussed and set by the Department Of Industry, Innovation and Science and MNIIF grant stipulations.
The new facility will not only provide major economic benefits to the local community, it will also meet and exceed all of the current environment parameters with the intention of contributing to the reduction of the carbon footprint.
